In the early 1990's, Dr. Rupert Sheldrake, biologist, and former Cambridge University fellow, completed a study to find out how many pet owners had observed seemingly psychic abilities in their pets. The household surveys found that 46% of dog owners had noticed this ability in England and 45% in California. In 1998, Sheldrake published a paper on this and further study in the Journal of the Society for Psychical Research. The controversy that followed has inspired researchers to replicate Sheldrake's studies and possibly prove the point one way or another, once and for all.

If you think your dog is psychic, take a closer look at its behavior. Have someone at home with your dog while you’re away running errands. Then, have the person watching your dog call you on your cell phone and tell you to come home. If your dog is tuned-in to your return trip home you should observe them spending more time at the door or window when you’re on your way. This is considered "anticipating behavior."

Stumped The Investigator

Recently,documentary producer Bill Murphy, shared details from his various paranormal investigations. Murphy recalled visiting a house in Leesville, Louisiana, where strange occurrences baffled a local paranormal research team.

"The land the house sat upon, as well as the home itself, would vibrate inexplicably, Murphy explained. The area was neither by railroad tracks nor prone to earthquakes, he added. Murphy said the unexplainable vibrations eventually manifested into poltergeist activity, which he was able to record."

But what about the house? And the people living in it?

Finger Length Predicts Speed, Aggression, Smarts, Motivation

Previous research has shown:

* Finger length can predict the likelihood of aggression in men (but not women).
* Kids with longer ring fingers are likely to have higher SAT math scores than literacy or verbal scores, while children whose index fingers are longer are more likely to do better at reading and writing, or verbal, rather than the math tests.
* A 2006 study in the journal BMJ linked a certain finger ratio to women's athletic prowess and also linked the differences to hormones in the womb.
* People whose ring finger is longer than their index finger are at higher risk of osteoarthritis, according to a study last year in the journal Arthritis and Rheumatism.

You can finger other body parts as behavior predictors, too.

A 2004 study in the American Journal of Human Biology found that the farther certain paired body parts were from symmetry — one ear or foot bigger than the other, for example — the more likely a person would show signs of aggression when provoked.

"Stressors during pregnancy [such as poor health, alcohol use or smoking] may lead to asymmetrical body parts," explained researcher Zeynep Benderlioglu of Ohio State University. "The same stressors will also affect development of the central nervous system, which involves impulse control and aggression." While asymmetry doesn't cause aggression, she said, the two things "seem to be correlated to similar factors during pregnancy."....


Boys with ring fingers longer than their index fingers run faster, a new study finds.

Finger-length ratios have been related to a host of things good and bad, from fertility and disease vulnerability to test scores and personality traits. In fact, you'll need the digits on both hands, regardless of their length, to count all the correlations that have been made.

Researchers say exposure to testosterone in the womb is behind the speedy kids and their finger-length ratios. The scientists studied 241 boys aged 10 to 17 at a talent-spotting competition in Qatar. Those with longer ring fingers were faster at every stage of a 50-meter sprint race, according to an article in The Telegraph.

"The advantage they had was soon apparent after the start of the sprint and remained steady thereafter," said John Manning, a researcher at Southampton University who led the study.

Scientists have completed their mission to map one of the most extraordinary mountain ranges on Earth.

Researchers believe the Gamburtsevs would have been the starting point for the great glaciers that eventually spread out to cover the entire polar region when it was plunged into a deep freeze more than 30 million years ago.

In their data, scientists hope to pinpoint the best place to drill a core from the ice. Ancient air trapped in the in snow layers as they were laid down could provide remarkable new insights into the climate history of Earth.

"At the moment, it is like the first page of a book. Up until now we just had an ambitious plan. Now we have all this remarkable data to pore over," Dr Ferraccioli.

The Gamburtsevs are a set of peaks equal in size to the European Alps, but they are hidden deep under the ice in the middle of the Antarctic continent.

The survey data gathered by the multi-national team working in harsh, sub-zero temperatures will help resolve the mystery of why the range exists at all.

Their presence, when first discovered in the 1950s, was totally unexpected.

Scientists thought the interior of the continent would be relatively flat.

Modern-day remote-sensing technology reveals quite the opposite - a very jagged landscape, albeit buried under up to 4km of ice.

"We can confirm they are there; we've seen them under the ice," said Dr Fausto Ferraccioli from the British Antarctic Survey.

"Not only are they similar in dimension to the European Alps, but they are also similar in aspect: we see very sharp peaks and valleys which are remarkably similar to the Alps themselves," he told BBC News.

"It all adds to the mystery - from the tectonic perspective of how these mountains were created; and from the glacial history perspective of how the East Antarctic ice sheet was formed and didn't erode these peaks."

The AGAP (Antarctica's Gamburtsev Province) project comprised scientists, engineers, pilots and support staff from the UK, the US, Germany, Australia, China and Japan.

They established two field camps deep in the Antarctic interior.
"The temperatures at our camps hovered around -30C, but three kilometres beneath us at the bottom of the ice sheet we saw liquid water in the valleys," explained AGAP US co-leader Dr Robin Bell, of the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory at Columbia University, New York, US.
Aircraft swept back and forth across the ice, mapping the shape of the sub-glacial mountains using ice-penetrating radar.

Other instruments measured the local gravitational and magnetic fields.

Some 120,000km were flown, the equivalent of three trips around the globe. In total, over 20% (one-fifth) of the East Antarctic Ice Sheet was explored."

Well Harry Potter fans,get ready.Some serious research is going on about that cloak of yours..Some say it is aimed toward warfare but that is not actually discussed.

Interesting , the copy I had from the article disappeared...any way several successful attempts have been made in the past few years to actually cause small and medium size objects to disappear.Now researchers at Duke University are reporting gains in the area.They expect to even soon be able to make large 3D objects to hide with invisibility..(some as large as tanks?) Some Research From Scotland

WHILE visiting a friend in hospital, a woman suddenly finds herself transported to a beautiful garden where she is surrounded by friendly people and the sound of happy laughter, in an apparent near-death experience.
A poltergeist takes up residence in a suburban home terrifying the family who move in there, while a man foresees the mortal danger facing his young son just in time to avert a terrible accident.

It all sounds like the stuff of Hollywood psychological horror films – the kind of thing most of us would probably scoff at if we were told it was happening next door.


But these stories do not come from the imagination of a fiction writer, they are real cases which are being investigated at Edinburgh University.

Each of these stories has been told, perfectly sincerely, to one researcher based at the famous Koestler Parapsychology Unit in recent months, by people who you would otherwise regard as absolutely "normal", sane and healthy.

There, French clinical psychologist Thomas Rabeyron, 27, is undertaking a year's research attempting to trace the roots of paranormal experiences.


During the last six months he's interviewed more than 160 people from across Edinburgh and the Lothians, hearing their tales of everything from telepathy and psychic healing, to ghosts and alien abductions.

"One of the most striking things to note," he begins, "is that most of these people are not crazy.

"They genuinely believe that these things have happened to them, are often very traumatised by these experiences and are struggling to understand them.

"As a clinical psychologist it's very important to me to understand these phenomena, as the ultimate aim of this research is to provide a counselling service for people coping with unexplained experiences."

Thomas – a skeptic when it comes to belief in an afterlife, although more open minded about unexplained phenomena such as ESP (extra-sensory perception) – is fascinated by how these apparent experiences can defy all regular logic.

Some people who say they have been abducted by aliens display symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder, he points out, and there are many examples of people once seen as incredibly rational who come to believe they are communing with the dead.

"One of the first cases I encountered was a woman with a very firm scientific background," he explains. "She was an engineer who had never given any consideration to the paranormal until she experienced something like a near-death experience while visiting a friend in hospital. She wasn't actually near death, but she said she was spontaneously transported to a beautiful garden with a lot of people and laughter all around.

"When the doctors snapped her out of it, she became very angry with them because she was so at peace.

"She didn't give it much more thought until a couple of years later when a child close to her died. After that, she began reading up on the afterlife and began interpreting her experience as a near-death experience and soon she started to perceive that she was communing with the child from the afterlife."

Thomas came to attribute the roots of the initial incident to a traumatic hospital experience from the engineer's childhood, but could find no way to explain how this once rational woman had suddenly started believing she was communing with the dead.
