"Hitler 'wanted to steal' Turin Shroud
The Turin Shroud, said to be the burial cloth of Christ, was secretly hidden in a Benedictine abbey during the Second World War because the Vatican feared that Adolf Hitler wanted to steal it.

The shroud was transferred for its safety to the Benedictine sanctuary of Montevergine in Avellino, in the southern Campania region of Italy in 1939 and was only transferred to Turin in 1946
The current director of the library at the abbey, Father Andrea Cardin, said the reason behind the move was because Hitler was "obsessed" with the sacred relic.
Both the Vatican and the Italian royal family, the Savoys, who were the guardians and owners of the shroud, feared that the German leader, who had an interest in the esoteric, might try to steal the linen cloth.
In an interview with an Italian magazine, Diva e Donna, Father Cardin said: "The Holy Shroud was moved in secret to the sanctuary in the Campania region on the precise orders of the House of Savoy and the Vatican.
"Officially this was to protect it from possible bombing (in Turin). In reality, it was moved to hide it from Hitler who was apparently obsessed by it. When he visited Italy in 1938, top-ranking Nazi aides asked unusual and insistent questions about the Shroud."
Father Cardin, a Benedictine monk, said that after Italy entered the war in alliance with Hitler, and German forces were sent to Italy, the shroud was very nearly discovered in its secret hiding place.
"In 1943 when German troops searched the Montevergine church, the monks there pretended to be in deep prayer before the altar, inside which the relic was hidden. This was the only reason it wasn't discovered."

Shroud of Turin:

This Easter, I was among the millions who watched the History Channel presentation "The Real Face Of Jesus,"It had aired earlier in the week as well.It was an amazing show.
You probably are well informed about The Shroud. If your interest is lasting, the introduction from this website would be of interest. If you are not aware of the on going process of evaluating it,it gives a good summary.
"The Shroud of Turin is a centuries old linen cloth that bears the image of a crucified man. A man that millions believe to be Jesus of Nazareth. Is it really the cloth that wrapped his crucified body, or is it simply a medieval forgery, a hoax perpetrated by some clever artist? Modern science has completed hundreds of thousands of hours of detailed study and intense research on the Shroud. It is, in fact, the single most studied artifact in human history, and we know more about it today than we ever have before. And yet, the controversy still rages. This web site will keep you abreast of current research, provide you with accurate data from the previous research and let you interact with the researchers themselves. We believe that if you have access to the facts, you can make up your own mind about the Shroud. ..." http://www.shroud.com/
From the Coast To Coast AM newsletter
:George Noory hosted Easter night, with author Jerome Corsi talking about his new novel The Shroud Codex. They were joined in the latter part of the show by Shroud researcher/photographer Barrie Schwortz. Corsi has concluded that the mysterious Shroud was the authentic burial cloth of Jesus, and the unusual markings on it were formed by supernatural means. The unique image of the Shroud shows evidence of the resurrection, possibly involving levitation and a burst of a light, and this process can be compared to modern particle physics with its emphasis on multi-dimensionality, he explained.
The Shroud has 3D-like qualities that reveal hundreds of scourge marks from the beating he received from a Roman officer, and evidence that he was nailed on the cross via his wrists instead of his palms, Corsi reported. This last detail corresponds with the way Romans actually crucified people rather than how Jesus has been typically depicted in paintings showing him on the cross. Corsi also discussed the work of Ray Downing who has used 3D computer technology to produce the "real face of Jesus," using the image of the crucified man in the Shroud of Turin.
The Shroud is not a painting, photo, etching or other recognizable art form, and how it was made remains a genuine mystery, said Schwortz, who noted that more accurate carbon dating of the cloth could affirm that it was from the first century (rather than the medieval period, as has been claimed). A rare exhibition of the Shroud is taking place this year, from April 10-May 23, at the Cathedral of Turin in Italy."
