(Aug. 27) -- For some people, there's not a ghost of a chance they'd ever buy a haunted property. But for others, like Annie Wilder, a copywriter in Hastings, Minn., haunted real estate can be a scary good investment.

Back in 1994, she bought a beautiful Victorian home that she suspected was spooked before she made the purchase.

"Actually, it didn't feel spooky, just out of time," Wilder told AOL News. "After we closed, the previous owner's daughter did ask if we had had any weird experiences, such as cupboards opening and closing on their own."
Turns out, that did happen. In fact, Wilder had purchased a home that was literally Grand Central Station for spirits and ghosts.

"That's what the resident spirit -- the previous owner, a German man -- told a psychic who investigated the house," Wilder said.
However, she didn't mind. She set the house up to respect the spirits who were there and established ground rules for those that didn't want to toe her line.

"We're very respectful of the ghosts," she said. "Anyone who moves into a haunted property should announce their presence and let the ghosts know you're there. When we moved in, we removed all the carpets and curtains -- which looked like they were stuck in the 1960s, but we promised him that we'd make it nice.

"On the other hand, I have no problem asking spirits to leave if they are rude to my family, friends and pets," Wilder said.

In the process, Wilder made her haunted house a true home -- and found a way to supplement her income in ways she'd never imagined..."

Star Child Update

The Star Child Skull has been of great interest for several years to me as well as the paranormal community in general.Recently a 2010 update was posted by the project.

You probably have heard of it.There is even a listing in Wikipedia.However their view is a bit more reserved than mine!
"The Starchild skull is an abnormal skull allegedly found in Mexico. It is primarily notable due to claims by paranormal researchers that it is evidence of extraterrestrial contact. Mitochondrial DNA recovered from the skull establishes it's mother was human, but skeptics believe it is a abnormal human skull..

Carbon 14 dating was performed twice, the first on the normal human skull at the University of California at Riverside in 1999, and on the Starchild skull in 2004 at Beta Analytic in Miami, the largest radiocarbon dating laboratory in the world. Both tests provided results of 900 years ± 40 years since death..."

He Believes Friday the 13th Is Unlucky

This young man in the recent news article is likely to think Friday The 13th is unlucky for the rest of his life..
" For some people 13 is an unlucky number.

St John Ambulance volunteers improved the luck of a 13-year-old boy when they treated him after he was struck by lightning - at 13:13 on Friday 13.

The boy was struck at Lowestoft Seafront Air Festival today, Firday 13th, and it was only while the ambulance team was treating him that they noticed the time - 1.13pm.

The unnamed buy suffered a minor burn and was taken to James Paget Hospital, where he is expected to make a full recovery."

Eastern Airlines Ghost

You may have heard of "The Ghost Of Flight 401" which brought a lot of attention to Eastern Airlines.If you have read the book or articles about it you will recognize this as a brief account.More details of the crew experiences made it more interesting to me,,,but from the article mentioned in a previous post, here is one of the events that led to EAL being considered the Airline of the Paranormal.
"The Ghost of Flight 401

Eastern Air Lines Flight 401 left New York’s JFK airport, bound for Miami International Airport, on December 29, 1972. The Lockheed L-1011 carried 163 passengers and 13 crew members. The flight was under the command of Captain Robert Loft, 55, a veteran Eastern Airline plot. His flight crew included First Officer Albert Stockstill, 39 and Second Officer (flight engineer) Donald Repo, 51.

The flight departed at 9:20 pm and crew and passengers enjoyed a routine flight until 11:32 pm. At this time, the flight was near its destination in Florida and the crew began to prepare for landing.
First Officer Stockstill noticed that the landing gear indicator did not illuminate. The other crew members assisted Stockstill, but became distracted by it. While the crew was focused on the landing gear indicator, the plane crashed.

Stockstill died on impact as the plane crashed into the swampy Florida Everglades. Captain Robert Loft and Second Officer Donald Repo survived the crash, briefly. Captain Loft died before he could be pulled from the wreckage. Officer Repo died the next day.

Of the 176 people on board, 101 died.

Frank Borman, prior to becoming CEO of Eastern Airlines, arrived at the scene after the crash to assist with rescue efforts.

Over the next several months, the employees of Eastern Airlines began to report sightings of the dead crew members Loft and Repo on board another L-1011. Parts from Flight 401 were reportedly salvaged after the Flight 401 crash investigation and refitted into another L-1011 in service. Ghostly sightings began to be reported by those who knew Loft and Repo. Eastern’s management threatened dismissal to those caught spreading “ghost stories”, it was said.
By this time, the rumors of the haunting had spread far and wide. Television and books told the stories of the ghosts. By this time, Frank Borman was the CEO of Eastern Airlines. Borman called the stories of a haunting “garbage” and considered suing the producers of the 1978 made-for-TV movie The Ghost of Flight 401 for libel.Despite this, former Eastern Airlines employees still insist to this day that they saw the ghosts of Loft and Repo on board the other L-1011. Parts were said to have been removed from the plane. After the parts removal, there was no further mention of any more appearances by Loft and Repo.

After the 1972 crash, it was discovered that the indicator light that distracted the Flight 401 crew was caused by a burned-out light bulb. The landing gear could have been manually lowered with or without the light. The crash was due to the error of the crew. It is said that this is the reason Loft and Repo haunted Flight 401 – to keep future flights safe from human error.

The Official Airline Of The Paranormal

You may not remember Eastern Air Lines but I do.My first flight was on Eastern when I was at UVA and flew home from Charlottesville to Atlanta.The "Ghost Of Flight 401" was also familiar.(For those of you who are not familiar with it, it will be posted next.A noteworthy story.)But until finding this article the rich association of that Airline and the Paranormal was new.For those interested the link will be at the end.

Athough Eastern Airlines dissolved in 1991, the association that this commercial passenger airline had with the paranormal for the majority of it’s life will live on. Eastern Airlines, at least for some of us, will always be associated with ghosts, UFOs and other unexplained phenomena.

The airline had a long (and documented) history of credible officials and employees who claimed to have had encounters with the paranormal.

Even though the airline officially denied the famous ghostly encounters associated with Eastern Airlines Flight 401, many former employees of the airline do still stand by their belief in the hauntings associated with that ill-fated flight.

Although the events reported are incredible in nature, the persons involved with the airlines and the events were considered to be credible.

Eastern Airlines was born normally enough. Established in 1926 as Pitcairn Aviation, the company won a government contract to fly U.S. mail between New York and Atlanta. By 1930, the name would change to Eastern Air Transport, then eventually would be called Eastern Airlines. In 1938, the airline was purchased by World War I flying ace Eddie Rickenbacker. The airline would become one of the “Big Four” airlines, along with United, American and TWA.

Fireball on Flight 539

Almost eleven years later, in March of 1963, Eastern Airlines Flight 539 experienced unexplained phenomena that has not been solved to this day. The plane was on its way from New York to Washington when a fireball entered the plane at one end, traveled through to the other end and vanished near the toilet. No one was harmed by it, but passengers said that it smelled slightly like sulphur or nitrogen oxide.

“I was seated near the front of the passenger cabin of an all-metal airliner (Eastern Airlines Flight EA 539) on a late night flight from New York to Washington. The aircraft encountered an electrical storm during which it was enveloped in a sudden bright and loud electrical discharge (0005 h EST). Some seconds after this, a glowing sphere a little more than 20 centimeters in diameter emerged from the pilot’s cabin and passed down the aisle of the aircraft approximately 50 centimeters from me, maintaining the same height and course for the whole distance over which it could be observed.” – Physicist Richard Jennison, published in Nature, 1971

Jennison also stated in the article that the object was blue-white in color and did not radiate any heat. He said that it moved at a “walking pace” about 2.5 feet above the floor.

Although experts have mulled this one over and suggested possibilities like ball lightning, it remains unsolved 47 years later.

Do You Think Of The Brtmuda Triangle As Dangerous

What are your thoughts about travel in the Bermuda Triangle area?
Which would concern you more travel by ship or flying there?

I have only flown over the area once without ant untoward events.Once on a cruise there was a forced delay in Puerto Rica and we were unable to disembark because a crew member had been injured.He was to be airlifted back to Miami,but no one saw any thing happen nor any Coast Guard people or vessel.
Seemed sort of strange.We were docked there for 24 hours.I always wondered what had really happened...Anyway,this article brought back those memories...

Unexpected Event In Daholengs.

Imagine mt surp[rise oe finding this and as Willard Scott used to say "in my neck of the woods."I grew up mwar here and one of my favorite relatives has lived there for years.This newspaper is the first one we ever wrote a letter to the editor to when I was 10.
"DAHLONEGA — In all his years running the Chestatee Wildlife Preserve, C.W. Wathen has never seen it happen. But five days ago, a zedonk was born.

“The animals have been running (in the fields) together for more than 40 years, but this is the first time that this has happened here,” said Wathen, the preserve’s founder and general manager. “We never suspected that they (had mated), so it was quite a surprise when the zedonk was born.”

The animal is a mix between a zebra and donkey. With black stripes prominently displayed on her legs and face, her zebra heritage is readily apparent, but her slender face and spindly legs are more donkeylike.

“White tigers are more of our calling card, but this is one of the most unique animals that has ever been born here,” Wathen said.
While she was born to a donkey mother, the baby zedonk’s instincts are all zebra.

“Usually, a foal will lay over on its side, sunning itself,” Wathen said. “But the zedonk sits up at all time — like she’s on alert looking out for predators. She’s still got some of her wild instincts.”

Although it’s uncommon for donkeys and zebras to mate, it isn’t unheard of. In 2005, a zebra gave birth to a zedonk in Barbados, according to the news website, Science Daily. And in the 1970s, three zedonks were born at a European zoo to a donkey mother, according to the Colchester Zoo’s website.

In about two weeks, the 5-day-old zedonk will begin roaming the property with the rest of the animals — including a camel, a donkey sibling, her zebra father and a 40-year-old miniature donkey.

Once the zedonk gets a little older, Wathen said she’ll be able to go out for off-site visits like some of the other animals on the preserve.

“The kids (visiting the preserve) have been going crazy about the zedonk,” he said.

Other animals on the 25-acre nonprofit preserve include giant tortoises, colorful macaws, white tigers, black leopards and a 2-month-old wolf.

“We keep all the animals fed really well, so a lot of the animals that would normally be predators in the wild run together in the same areas here,” Wathen said. “In the wild they are competing for food, but here they don’t have to compete, so there’s no fighting.”
