Mexico Begins Count Down For 2012

Both BBC and The Times newspaper say Mexico expects to cash in on the 2012 enigma, "Idigenous Maya communities in southern Mexico have begun a year-long countdown to 21 December 2012, which will mark the end of a five-millenia cycle in the ancient Mayan calendar. Some people have interpreted the prophecy as predicting the apocalypse. But experts say it signifies the end of an era, not the end of the world. Maya priests have been holding special religious ceremonies, and Mexican tourism officials are preparing for a surge in visitors to the region. Mexico's tourism agency says it hopes to draw around 52 million visitors in 2012, with many heading to the Maya heartland in the southern states of Chiapas, Yucatan, Quintana Roo and Tabasco. The Mayan civilisation, which reached its peak between 250 and 900AD, was fascinated by astronomy, mathematics and the cycles of time. Its Long Count calendar began in 3114BC and moves forward in 394-year periods known as Baktuns. The winter solstice in 2012 marks the end of the 13th Baktun, a date of special significance that reflects celestial alignments recognised by modern astronomers. The idea that it could mean the end of the world - based on a Mayan text carved into a stone 1,300 years ago - has been spread on thousands of websites. But archaeologists and Maya experts say the prophecy predicts the return to Earth of a powerful god and the start of a new era, not a global catastrophe. They point out that other Maya prophecies refer to events far in the future. This has not stopped the spread of millennial fears around the world. Tourism officials are hoping that some of those who believe the end of the world is nigh will take the opportunity to visit the Maya region before it is too late.

What Are the Mysterious Markings Found In the Great Pyramid’s Hidden Chamber of Secrets?

It's been the first time anyone accessed the secret chamber in 4500 years.

The archeologists have reached a second blocking stone, finding mysterious markings on the floor. They don't know what they are yet.

The chamber is located at the end of a 63-meter-long tight passage way going up from the Queen's chamber, which is at the center of the bottom of the gigantic 146-meter-tall pyramid, made out of 2.3 million blocks of limestone and granite.
Located south of the top of the King's chamber, the secret chamber shows mysterious markings, as well as metal pins embedded in the first blocking stone. Apparently, there's a second blocking stone behind that one. No other artifacts have been found yet, and archeologists still don't know what the red stone markings mean. They certainly don't look like your usual hieroglyphics to me...."

More About Ancient Aliens

Researcher and publisher Giorgio Tsoukalos discussed the ancient astronaut theory and presented evidence which" he believes may prove extraterrestrials visited our planet in the distant past. According to Tsoukalos, the gods and heavenly beings mentioned in ancient religious texts and traditions were likely alien travelers. Further, stories of 'dragon snakes' found in certain early cultures may refer to aerial vehicles piloted by these ETs, as "the gods, or teachers from the sky, actually walked out of the belly of those flying serpents," he explained. The flying turtle carvings of Guatemala also seem to point to alien interaction with our ancient ancestors, Tsoukalos added.

The ET visitors tampered with early man's DNA to create human-alien hybrids, he continued, noting how this probably jump-started our ancestor's technological development. Tsoukalos believes an exhibit depicting a recreation of an ancient human at the Darwin Museum in Moscow confirms this hybridization program. Tsoukalos mentioned several puzzling archaeological sites as well, including the famed Cart Ruts of Malta, Ollantaytambo in Peru, and a 400-ton monolithic bridge in India. Local legend says the massive megalithic structure in India was place there by the gods to facilitate pilgrimages, Tsoukalos said.

Tsoukalos also announced that Season 3 of the History Channel series Ancient Aliens has been approved, as well as shared his take on 2012 and the Mayan Calendar. "Nothing will happen," he declared, adding that the biggest problem will probably be massive hangovers the next day."

Controversial ideas
Some have suggested that the Saqqara Bird may represent evidence that knowledge of the principles of aviation existed many centuries before such are generally believed to have first been discovered.[citation needed]

Egyptian physician, archaeologist, parapsychologist and dowser[[2]] Khalil Messiha has speculated that the ancient Egyptians developed the first aircraft.[3] He wrote that it "represents a diminutive of an original monoplane still present in Saqqara."[3] He also claimed that the Saqqara Bird could function as a glider if it had a horizontal tailplane, which he "suppose[d] was lost,"[3] and noted that the Egyptians often placed miniaturized representations of their technology in their tombs.[4]

Messiha contended that the Saqqara Bird differs significantly from other statues and models of birds housed in the Cairo museum. According to Messiha, the Saqqara Bird has a vertical tailplane which is unlike the generally horizontal shape of a real bird's tail.[3] It is also legless and has wings set at an angle Messiha sees as similar to that of modern aircraft, which he considered an attempt to create aerodynamic lift.[3]

In spite of these claims, however, no ancient Egyptian aircraft have ever been found, nor has any other evidence suggesting their existence come to light. As a result, the theory that the Saqqara Bird is a model of a flying machine is not accepted by mainstream Egyptologists."

" Prof. Carmen Boulter (The Pyramid Code) discussed the history and mysteries of ancient Egypt, what's being hidden and what's being revealed, on Tuesday's show.

She was recently in Egypt for a press conference about the DNA results of King Tut's mummy, and found the announcement that the young pharaoh had various medical maladies to be slanted and contradictory to her "psychic archeology" view that the leaders from the 18th Dynasty were highly conscious and healthy beings.

She cited evidence for ancient Egypt's advanced technology-- they were very sophisticated in their sky/ground correlations and lined the Giza Pyramids up with stars in the Orion constellation. The pyramids, she said, were built with antigravity methods-- "I envision large lifters and small nudgers," and people acting as "human divining rods that were connecting the cosmic energy to the earth."

Recently on Coast to coast AM there was an interesting program on Mysterious Locations,artifacts etc.

"Author, researcher, and archaeologist David Hatcher Childress spoke about a variety of mysterious and sometimes ancient places and creatures. There is evidence of ancient visitors to the New World, who may have come here by boat as far back as 1,000 to 2,000 BC, he said. He cited a report in the Phoenix Gazette in 1909, about an expedition to the Grand Canyon in which artifacts such as a Buddha-like statue were found, as well as the case of the Elephant Stone of Aztec, New Mexico in which elephants and hieroglyphics were carved into ancient slabs.

Mysterious Stonehedge .A New Theory

The ancient standing stones of Stonehedge have been a pondered site for centuries.Who built it and why? How did they do it? Many theories have been developed.Almost all agree that the Druids used the site in ancient times.Many say it was there long before.It is still a subject of debate.
The Smithstonian in the October,2008 issue has an interesting article about a new theory considered.(Pages 38-46)
Two archeologists completing the first dig there in 44 years.Darville and Wainwright, think it might have been a site for healing.They also think the smaller bluestone rather than the towering trilithons may hold the key.If you are interested in this largest site in the world you might want to see this article.

One thing that was of interest to me other than their findings was the respectful way the 2 week dig was handled including not only filling back in where they worked but beginning and ending the dig with a ceremony conducted by eight druids in dress and a single drum....interesting,
