Description & Edgar Cayce's Thoughts of Atlantis

This palace,at the center of Atlantis, was surrounded by five rings of water and land connected only by tunnels large enough for ships to pass through. Atlantians were amazing engineers. They built palaces, temples, harbors, docks and a complicated water system - all about 12,000 years ago. Farmers grew the food on a field not much larger than the state of Oklahoma. Behind this massive field there where mountains touching the sky where many of the wealthy villagers lived. Plato described spectacular buildings, fountains that had both hot and cold water, stone walls covered with precious metals and huge statues made of gold. All destroyed
when Zeus struck and Atlantis disappeared.

Whether Plato intended to end his story of Atlantis so abruptly or whether he intended to extend it no one knows. Just as no one knows whether Plato believed in the real existence of the island or whether it was purely a mythical kingdom. Many have said they believe that Plato believed in the island's existence because he exerted so much detail in its description, while others reject this by claiming since the story was purely fiction Plato could add whatever he wanted.

However, Plato's work was not the only one to point to a 'lost continent'. There are legends of other old civilizations that mention lost worlds which disappeared into the waters, as a result of volcanic eruptions, floods, and earthquakes. Some did not even mention the story, but drew a map with an island lying in the Atlantic Ocean.(phttp://atlantis.haktanir.org/ch1.html)
Maybe Plato intended to make people think about Atlantis – remember Plato was a philosopher. As a politician defending democracy, he might have wanted to point at the fact that governmental degeneration finally leads to doom.

A number of people have written about Atlantis but none is more important than Atlantis: the Antediluvian World, written by Ignatius Donnelly,an American Congressman. The 1882 publication of Atlantis: the Antediluvian World stimulated much popular interest in Atlantis.

Donnelly presented geological and archeological evidence along with legend to support his belief in Atlantis' existence. He also pointed to similarities between Egyptian and Central/South American cultures, such as their 365-day calendars, flood legends, and embalming and pyramid-building practices, as suggesting that these peoples shared a common origin - though they had since become separated by the Atlantic Ocean. Finally, he cited certain peoples of Spain, Portugal, and the Canary Islands (all were likely landing spots for refugees from Atlantis) who were distinctly different from their neighbors in those regions.

One of Americas most Internationally know psychics ,Edgar Cayce "The Sleeping Prophet", spoke of Atlantis and the related continent of Lemuria or Mu which either was before Atlantis or a contemporary society which also was destroyed by cataclysmic earth changes.Cayces "Readings" were carefully recorded and kept on file at the agency dedicated to his work.
Later ther readings were catagorizes and published. Many dealt with Atlantis or the people.A few highlights inclde:

The Cayce readings affirm the existence of Atlantis, a vast continent with an advanced technology whose refugees peopled ancient Egypt as well as pre-Columbian America.According to Cayce, Atlantis suffered 3 major destructions one of which was the deluge.

Land Mass - The size of Atlantis was equal to that of Europe, including Asia in Europe. He saw visions of a continent which had gone through three major periods of division; the first two about 15,600 BCE, when the mainland was divided into islands. The three main islands Cayce named Poseida, Og and Aryan.

Atlantean Souls - Many people living today are the reincarnations of Atlantean souls, who must now face similar temptations as before.

Blue Stone - Cayce predicted the coming of a certain 'blue stone' of Atlantean origin, that was to be found on "an island in the Caribbean" and was to have the power to heal. In 1974 a Volcanic blue pectolite now known as the Larimar was found in the Dominican Republic

Crystals - The Atlanteans had constructed giant laser-like crystals for power plants, and that these had been responsible for the second destruction of the land. In metaphysical circles this colored gemstone is said to have healing powers; as with most crystals and gemstones, there is no scientific evidence that it has any special properties. The final destruction was in part to due to the overcharging of the Crystal which caused a massive explosion. Cayce blamed the final destruction on the disintegration of the Atlantean culture through greed and lust. But before the legendary land disappeared under the waves, Cayce believed there was an exodus of many Atlanteans through Egypt and further afield. Cayce attributed history's Great Flood in part to the sinking of the last huge remnants of Atlantis..

Atlantis Rising - Cayce most specifically timed forecast was that Atlantis would rise again in 1968 or 1969. Needless to say, Cayce was wrong on that count. [Note: However, it was in that time frame that the "Bimini Road" was located in the Atlantic Ocean. Whether this under water structure is a "road" or "natural, geologic erosion" is unproven.
